Christmas Gifts!

Christmas Gifts

The holidays were a busy time for Pencil Pictures by Mae! I got the opportunity to draw a lot of pretty faces! Thanks to all of you who ordered.  Here are a few of the gifts.

Meet Marley.  I will go ahead and admit it.. this little child is the reason I am unbelievably baby hungry. She is the COOLEST little toddler I've ever met.  She's funny, sassy, sweet and absolutely perfect. Lucky for me, this 2 year old is one of my best friends. There's a few pictures for you guys to see the process.  I included a close up of the finished product because I tried using charcoal for the first time and am so glad I did.  Charcoal allows much darker tones for shadows which gives the drawing more depth and a more realistic feel. Hope you like it!

Ready to see the cutest little smile you've ever seen? Say hi to Knox.  This fun little boy is soooo adorable and has the cutest little voice I've ever heard.  I love the picture his dad chose for me to draw because the little spark in his eyes says it all.

Check out this cute family! Eric, Sadie, London and Kennedy. This was a gift for their mom, a drawing of her handsome husband and their three sweet little girls. This was a first for me because I have never drawn more than two people in a drawing.  Also, this was a last minute order and I didn't have a high quality photo to work with which made it a little harder so I won't lie, I was nervous as to how it would turn out but I loved the final result and more importantly, their mom loved it too!

I've drawn a lot of engagement pictures which are all wonderful.  But as the artist myself, I think I have a new favorite.  I drew Brock and Alex and I absolutely loved the final result.  It's a great picture to begin with and drawing it was so much fun for me.  I got the opportunity to see it all finished up, matted and framed, hung in their home and I was in love with it.

Cute Kiddos

Is there anything more precious than a perfect picture of your beautiful baby?? The answer is yes.  A drawing of your sweet baby! Kids grow up right before your eyes (or so i'm told), and time flies! Go above the normal baby photos and get a portrait of your children.

My roommate Sydnee told me that on her fathers side, all the kids had gotten a drawing of themselves as young children.  The portraits hung in their parents home, all but one.  Her aunt.  Turns out they used the same artist for all the portraits but couldn't get one of the last child.  Sydnee's parents asked if I could finish the missing spot.  Gladly I accepted.  This drawing was the first I had done this big, measuring 18'x24'.  It is also the first drawing I did in one sitting.  Started with a blank page and about 5 hours later had the finished result.  The coolest thing about this photo is the reaction it received.. Sydnee came home from work and I surprised her with it, she covered her mouth in awe and began to cry.  All she could do was hug me! Her parents, dad especially, were soooo excited to give this gift to his sister. A few weeks after I finished the drawing, I received a letter from an unfamiliar address. Sydnee's aunt had written me a letter expressing her gratitude for the drawing.  She never imagined she would get her own portrait to hang in her parents home. This drawing touched a lot of hearts and it was a really cool thing knowing I had something to do with it.

I was blessed to meet some pretty cool people this year up at Utah State.  One person being Timmy! Aside from having mad baseball skills, this guy has one of the cutest kids around.  His son Jace is adorable and loves the game just as much as his dad! Timmy asked if I could draw Jace for his wife's anniversary gift this coming month. After Jace coming out to support our intramural softball team all season, how could I not?? I just finished it and Timmy loves it. Hopefully his wife will love it just as much when she receives it.

Action Drawings

While drawing engagements and posed portraits is fun, not everyone likes taking those kinds of pictures.  Action shots are pretty cool and a lot of fun so I figured why not draw these too?

Zach

Meet Zach.  I like to call him zaCH.. you know pronouncing the ch as "ch."  Anyways, Zach is a close friend of mine who loves to snowboard.  He didn't believe me when I told him I could draw, so in order to validate my statement I had to show him a thing or two.  This kid snowboards so much that the hardest part was choosing which picture to draw.  I chose this one because it's not your typical snowboarding picture. This one gave a unique perspective on the sport and honestly, it's just a cool picture.

Nick

This is Nick. Nick is an old friend of mine who as you can see, played basketball for Snow College.  Being close with his family I decided to draw his mom this picture that she took of him during one of his games.  It's a little outdated seeing I drew this almost two years ago, Nick now plays for UC Riverside. I decided to take out the opponent from the picture in the drawing because I wanted to keep the spotlight on Nick.

A Little Bit of Love

One of my favorite parts about weddings are the engagement pictures. Each photo allows you to see the excitement, eagerness and love that the soon to be newlyweds have for one another.  This is why I choose to draw engagement photos.  They not only make the perfect wedding gift, but then become a beautiful piece that can be displayed in their future homes.

Rob and Jodi

This is Rob and Jodi.  Rob is one of my older brothers best friend and has been for many years. Pretty much he's just part of our family.  Me and my brother decided this would be a perfect gift for him and his cute new wife.  They were married this past September. Congrats you two!

Mike and Megan

Meet Mike and Megan.  Mike is my older brothers other best friend.   Megan and him were married in October, just two weeks after Rob and Jodi! So of course we had to give them a drawing as well.  I am extremely grateful that my brother made friends with these guys, ultimately giving me the opportunity to draw them and their gorgeous wives.  Congrats Mike and Megan!

Missionary Portraits

Meet my best pals, Cado and Dill.  These are my unofficial big brothers who chose to serve 2 year LDS missions.  Caden is currently serving in Fiji while Dillon just returned home from serving in Russia.  When their one year mark rolled along, I decided to draw their sweet mothers a portrait of their missionary sons, and mostly I just missed my best friends. Caden and Dillon :)

Both portraits are sized at 11x14'
